Learn more about the wild car here

The shallow angle of the inclines at Graig Ddu quarry near Manod, Blaenau Ffestiniog provided a quick method for workmen from the quarry to get home. It is the only place where these wild cards were used

The wild car was invented by the quarry’s blacksmith in the 1870s and was made of wood, a flanged iron wheel in front, a flat iron casting on the back with guiding flanges and an iron bar speed controlled with a handle between the driver’s knees that worked as a brake. The trolley ran on the centre two rails of the double track inclines.
