Moss Garden

An exhibition of folios, paintings and prints which explore the Celtic Rainforests of North Wales and the Sub-Antarctic Forest of South Chile.

“Since 2010 we have met each season to witness and record through drawing, painting and writing our experiences of being in nature.  This has enriched our practice as artists.

Included in this exhibition are three folios alongside related paintings and artists books :

Moss Garden – Snowdonia Rainforest folio of selected mosses and liverworts found in Ceunant Llennyrch near Maentwrog, Snowdonia.  In each season in this woodland, we made paintings of place, sound and habitat; later in our studios we made microscope paintings responding to the mosses and liverworts (bryophytes) collected.

Hafod Woodland – Snowdonia Rainforest folio in which we record, over two years, the changes to woodland as it is thinned and animals are introduced to create a more diverse woodland pasture.

Isla Navarino – Sub-Antarctic Forest folio made during our residency at the Cape Horn International Centre, Chile.  We spent time walking, painting, drawing and making notes as a response to Sea, Forest, Water and the Plants and Birds that inhabit them on this remote island.

Treborth Botanic Garden collaborative print and paint pieces.”

Jac Jones

05 October 2024 - 04 January 2025

A major exhibition of work by Jac’s Jac Jones, artist, illustrator and author at Storiel promises to be inspiring and surprising.  Jac’s images are known to thousands of families across Wales – the Jac y Jwc character he created for the Sali Mali series of books or artworks for classic children’s books such as Lleuad yn Olau and Y Trysorfa to name but a few. Others might be surprised to see Jac’s artistic works in LP covers and theatre posters. For over fifty years, Anglesey born Jac has, and continues to, create artistic work of the highest standard; whether for children’s books,  LP covers, theatre productions or television programmes.   His work is familiar and yet this is a rare opportunity to see his artisty up-close in a gallery.  On display will be sketch books, story boards, familiar characters and less well known artworks.  Together, they demonstrate Jac’s talent - he could turn his hand to any style that was required that would produce the best result – a real testament to his creativity, skill and imagination.
