Meninir Mathias will be leading an oil painting masterclass with a focus on portraiture here at Storiel Bangor to mark the end of the Peace exhibition, in which some of Meninir’s paintings are on display. The workshop is suitable for adults, and some painting experience is recommended. In this workshop, we’ll create one alla prima portrait. The workshop will help to build confidence with your skill set with one-to-one critiques. Meinir will share her knowledge and experience, which you can apply to your painting. You’ll explore the potential of colour, composition and paint application and gain an understanding of how to build a successful portrait.
Meinir Mathias is an acclaimed Welsh artist celebrated for her figurative works, which explore intertwining narratives of historical protest, land and memory. Her work has been exhibited widely in galleries across Wales, London and internationally, including a solo show representing Wales at the Palais de Congres in Lorient, France. She was also a recipient of the prestigious Ivor Davies Prize for Fine Art at the ‘Lle Gelf’- National Eisteddfod of Wales last year. She has a BA and Master’s in Fine Art painting and taught for some years at the Carmarthen School of Art.

We will be working in a square format. Images and boards will be provided; however, if you wish to work from your own image, please bring a printout of a photograph in a square format or on a device such as an iPad. You are also welcome to bring your own canvas or support if you prefer. We can provide the paints, mediums, easels and boards to paint on.
