According to an article published by the Times Higher Education in 2005, Bangor University art collection is in the top ten of the best University art collections in the UK. The art collection consists of approximately 650 works, dating from the 17th to the 21st centuries, and is an important artistic and cultural asset for the University and for the whole of north Wales. This exhibition celebrates the 140th anniversary of the University and its art by displaying highlights from the collection.
Joshua Gardner is a Californian native that has been living in Bnagor and has learnt welsh. His musical project Pioden (Magpie) is a vibrant mix of protest folk and punk that has wowed audiences and built up a loyal following . Come down to Storiel's Cafe for an interesting afternoon of turbo chaged troubadour music.
The aim of the project is to pilot how schools can more easily access national collections – and how galleries that are part of the CELF network might help facilitate that. This project offers one model of working. Storiel and Oriel Plas Glyn y Weddw have worked with two primary schools – Ysgol Garnedd (Bangor) and Ysgol Cymerau (Pwllheli) respectively, the artist Luned Rhys Parri and Amgueddfa Cymru – Museum Wales.
