It is a privilege to have the artist Michal Iwanowski discuss his career and the touring exhibition Go Home, Polish! currently at STORIEL.
Originally from Poland and now settled in the city of Cardiff, Michal Iwanowski’s work is a journey in more than one sense. In 2008, Michal came across graffiti near his home saying ‘Go Home, Polish’. Ten years later, amidst the backdrop of Brexit and a divided Europe, he undertook an incredible journey of over 1900km on foot between Wales and his hometown, Mokrzeszów in Poland. This journey passed through Wales, England, France, Belgium, the Netherlands, Germany, and the Czech Republic. The main aim of the journey was to explore and understand the idea of ‘home’. The journey took 105 days to complete, during which he posted a diary of his experiences and encounters on Instagram. Ten years after the Brexit referendum, it feels timely to show Michal’s work here at Storiel.
The exhibition and talk have been made possible through CELF – a national initiative to ensure allowing the national collection to be shown throughout Wales.
