Celebrating colour, nature and life. Striking compositions of abstract collages by Glyn Baines derived from works surrounding him in his studio. Working outdoors with pencil and paper, Helen Baines is inspired by the beautiful surrounding areas of Cwmystradllyn, Oerddwr and Nantmor to name but a few.

GLYN BAINES

“The work is to a certain extent abstract, that reflects my background over the last fifty years from the time I fell in love with abstract art. It has been a major part of my life and I’m now 90 years old and I still feel the same old thrill, and opening the door to the studio is like entering the world of magic.”

“My inspiration  comes from the landscape around me. I like to wander in Oerddwr, Beddgelert which lies on my doorstep. I get pleasure using mixed media be it outdoors or in the studio – which faces the Moelwynion, Cnicht and Lliwedd in the distance. Colour is important in my work and I especially enjoy conveying the dark blues found in the mountains and the various greens found in the land. Mark making and scratching through layers of pastel and paint lead to an emergence of lines which hint at distant horizons and stone walls across fields.”
