A workshop led by Gwilym Dwyfor, the former editor of Y Selar (a well known Welsh language music magazine) on crafting compelling music reviews could offer participants a unique perspective into the art of music journalism with a specific focus on Welsh-language music.

This workshop will teach participants the essential skills needed to write engaging and insightful music reviews. It will cover the basics of structure, tone, and style in music journalism, with specific emphasis on the Welsh-language music scene. Gwilym Dwyfor brings years of experience from his tenure at Y Selar, offering expert tips on writing that resonates with readers while staying true to the artist’s work.

By the end of this workshop, participants will:

  1. Understand the core elements of a good music review
  2. Gain insight into analyzing and describing different music genres and styles
  3. Develop a structured approach to writing reviews
  4. Learn how to write reviews that capture the essence of Welsh language music
  5. Create a draft review based on a Welsh song or album for feedback

Each participant will leave with a draft music review, along with structured feedback from Gwilym Dwyfor and peers, as well as a checklist to guide future review writing.

Painting and Poems Workshop

Art and poetry workshop under the care of Elin Alaw. Come and illustrate a piece of the history of the Gwynedd quarrying area, in this mixed media workshop. There will be an opportunity to discuss the form and quality of an old quarryman's tin, and then experiment with charcoal and watercolour to bring life to our images. Finally, we will incorporate Glan Tecwyn's poem into our work. This two-hour session, suitable for children aged 8 and older, is open to all parents, who are also welcome to participate. No prior experience in creating art is required. Limited numbers, so please book your place in advance.
